As children, most of us are sheltered from the evils that are rampant in this world. When we grow up, we get so used to hearing about violence and crime that we just take it in stride. We might also be overlooking red flags that indicate toxic people around us. This lack of awareness may very well lead us into a pit that we can’t climb out from.
Here’s how you can recognize toxic people:
1. Tries To Control You
Almost all of a toxic person’s relationships are based on getting something they want out of those people rather than any real feelings of friendship and love. To that end, they’ll try to control them like a puppet so that they can take advantage of them whenever possible.
2. Keeps You In The Dark
As part of their trickery, they’ll deliberately keep you in the dark about their own personal lives and anything that might weaken their hold on you. If they let anything slip, you might figure out that it is all a facade so it is necessary for them to keep their tactics to themselves.
3. Never Feels Guilty
Anyone who has a shred of decency will feel some amount of guilt when they cause harm to those who are close to them. But all that toxicity ensures that they can’t really process emotions like affection and kindness, and so it is only natural that guilt is also foreign to them.
4. Dismisses Your Goals
Since toxic people only get close to you to get something out of you, they don’t care that they’re getting in the way of your own cherished goals. Firstly, hurting you is of no consequence to them and secondly, they don’t think you are worthy of having hopes and dreams for yourself.
5. Multiple Personalities
For a toxic person, life is a game and they need to come out on top. To achieve that, they’ll present one facade to you and another to someone else based on how they wish to use each one of you. You’ll never see their real self even if you try.
6. Deception Upon Deception
Not only will they trap you in with multiple lies, but they’ll also trap themselves in their own net of deception. Since they have so many carefully crafted facades to maintain, deception is essential if they wish to continue playing their games.
7. Controlled By Their Pride
Their inflated ego ensures that they think very highly of themselves. Toxic people believe that the whole world was made to serve their own agendas and no one can claim to be more important than they are.
8. Entitled To Everything
Not only do they believe that they’re a cut above the rest, but they also think they deserve a whole lot more than anyone else. Hard work is beneath them so they’ll expect everyone else to run around for them and do their bidding.
9. Faith In their Own Falsehoods
As mentioned earlier, toxic people live inside a world of deception. When they work so hard to maintain their lies, they end up believing those lies themselves. They will never listen even if you try to tell them otherwise.
